To ensure superior customer service to our clients' debtors, Windham has an Ombudsman who functions as a mediator when a debtor has a question related to his or her debt. The Ombudsman assists debtors who want to discuss their rights and responsibilities. He is extremely skilled at helping debtors navigate the fundamentals and the details regarding student loans.

Student Loan Glossary:

Consolidation: Refinancing multiple education loans into one new loan with a new repayment term, monthly payments and interest rate.

Rehabilitation: After making 12 consecutive, voluntary monthly payments, borrowers can have their loans taken out of default and their credit bureau records updated to reflect their current loan status.

Deferment: Under the following circumstances, you have the right to defer (or postpone) repayment, if you are not in default:

Enrolled at least half-time in an eligible school;
Engaged in a full-time course of study in a graduate fellowship program;
Engaged in a full-time rehabilitation training program for individuals with disabilities (if approved by the Department of Education);
Conscientiously seeking, but unable to find, full-time employment (maximum up to three years);
Experiencing an economic hardship as determined by federal law, including service as a Peace Corps volunteer (maximum up to three years).
